Jaws at The Movie Theater!

Now in 1975 when the original Jaws movie came out I was only six. I don’t specifically remember it when it first came out, but I do remember the effects of it over the following years. I’ve always had a fondness for the movie, and I’m not sure exactly why.  I’ve never been able to see it in the big screens, and most likely I have only seen it cut up on TV replays.

But tonight was a treat; the digitally remastered 1975 Jaws had a special one-night showing in a theater right by my house. Of course, I had no choice but to go, and even though I couldn’t find anyone to go with me, I went alone. Very good thing that I did, because I wouldn’t be disappointed at all. While I’m not sure where all the fondness for the movie came from over the years, once the movie started in the theater, I learned whatever I had found that I liked about it over the years was spot on.

Now for those of you that don’t know,  a gigantic great white shark basically stakes claim to a small island community of Amity, with a new police chief. As the menace continues, it becomes ever so clear that we’re not talking about a standard shark. This is something bigger and more deadly than has ever been seen before, and as time goes on the three men’s task to hunt down and kill this shark grows.

Surprisingly I didn’t find a whole lot of this 1975 movie that I didn’t enjoy. In most aspects, short of the cheap polyester suit that the mayor seemed to always have on, I’m not sure that I noticed that anything I would change at all. Even today, or should I say especially today, I give this movie a 9 out of 10 stars. I also hope that Hollywood tries bringing some of these movies back to the theaters instead of just remaking them every time they see a couple dollar signs.
