Ghost Shark Preview

ghost-sharkGhost Shark airs on the SyFy channel on Thursday, August 22nd at 9/8PM ET/CT, and starts Mackenzie Rosman (7th Heaven) and Richard Moll (Night Court).

Synopsis:

In Ghost Shark a great white shark is tortured and killed by a fisherman, then returns from the dead, exacting vengeance on all of humanity.  When Ava’s (Mackenzie Rosman) father is brutally murdered, no one believes that the ghost shark got him – except the crazy lighthouse keeper Finch (Richard Moll).  Ava and her friends take the matter into their own hands as they desperately try to survive the bloody wrath of the bitter ghost shark.

Ghost Shark - 2013I want to start off by saying that Richard Moll is an under rated actor, and should be in more things.  Mr. Moll is the best thing in Ghost Shark, and I would like to personally thank him for keeping me from scratching my eyes out while watching it.

I watched this movie willing to let a lot of things slide based on the idea that is was meant to be so bad it was funny, but that is not the case, for the most part it was just atrociously bad.

*****Warning Spoilers*****

Half the time characters did or said things that made no sense what so ever.  For instance who calls their friends the day after a pool party to tell them that a ghost shark killed one of their friends, then just says “bye” and hangs up?  Also why does Finch think Ava’s dad had anything to do with killing the shark?  Come to think of it, when the grenade exploded in the shark’s mouth why was there enough of the shark left to swim back to the ancient cave?

Yes, Ava let the police do their job, which apparently means ignoring every eye witness they have.

And again why does it mystically have to be Ava that destroys the ghost shark, since her dad had nothing what so ever to do with the shark’s death, other than the fact that he was there?

Also when looking at the dead carcass of the shark why would one assume the arrow in the eye was the kill shot when something clearly exploded in it’s mouth, I would think it was the high explosives that killed the poor beast.

Ghost-Shark

Like I said I was looking to get a good laugh out of Ghost Shark, but that sadly did not happen.  The only mildly humorous parts of the movie were how bad some of the special effects were.  It was so badly written that the poor actors involved had nothing to work with.  Other than Richard Moll, Kim Collins, and Robert Aberdeen I have not heard of any of the other actors and actresses in Ghost Shark, as such I cannot attest to their acting abilities.  They all seem to be able to speak and read, so I put the blame squarely on the writer, director, and producer.  The writing was terrible and the director or producer should have seen that early on, fired the original writer and hired someone who could put a coherent sentence together on the back of a cocktail napkin and come up with something better than what we got on the screen.

So, if you like seeing unusual ways for people to be eaten by sharks, then Ghost Shark is the movie for you, because anywhere there is water Ghost Shark can get you!
