Jenna-Louise Coleman has been announced as the next companion to step on board the TARDIS. Season 7 of Doctor Who will be split between 2012 and 2013. Six episodes will be broadcast in 2012 ending with the Christmas Special.
Steven Moffat has announced that the Ponds will be leaving in the fifth episode of the season, and Jenna will be meeting the Doctor in the Christmas Special.
The remaining eight episodes of season 7 will air in early 2013. Moffat has stated that there will be more episodes later in 2013, but they have yet to determine exactly how many. Matt Smith is contacted for all 2013 episodes.
Steven Moffat said:
“It always seems impossible when you start casting these parts, but when we saw Matt and Jenna together, we knew we had our girl. She’s funny and clever and exactly mad enough to step on board the Tardis,”
“It’s not often the Doctor meets someone who can talk even faster than he does, but it’s about to happen. Jenna is going to lead him his merriest dance yet. And that’s all you’re getting for now.
“Who she’s playing, how the Doctor meets her, and even where he finds her, are all part of one of the biggest mysteries the Time Lord ever encounters. Even by the Doctor’s standards, this isn’t your usual boy meets girl.”
I for one am looking forward to the Doctor having a new companion on his journeys. I like the Ponds, but I think their story has run its course, and it’s time for the Doctor to move on to new adventures and friendships. That and the whole Doctor dating Amy’s daughter thing is kind of creepy.
For those of you unfamiliar with Jenna-Louise Coleman’s work, she has starred in Emmerdale and Waterloo Road.

In the most recent edition of Doctor Who Magazine, Steven Moffat has given his opinion on the controversial cancellation of Doctor Who Confidential.
“It seems hard to grasp. All shows have their time, and all shows end, but not, in all sanity, while people still watch and love them. And going by the numbers and the outcry, this show was watched and loved everywhere.”
“I’m not supposed to say it, but I’m going to anyway: bad day, bad decision. I know these are straitened times. I know we’re all at sea and the night is colder – but you don’t start burning the lifeboats to keep warm.”
“Or to put it another way, you might want to think about the future if you’re planning to live there.”
Doctor Who Magazine and Steven Moffat have both shown support for the Save Doctor Who Confidential campaign whose petition at writing of this article, is at 44,500 signatures. If you haven’t done so already, show your support by signing the petition. A count will be taken midnight Friday October 28th 2011 and sent to the BBC Trust.

Steven Moffat talks about the new series of Doctor Who.
“The wait is almost over. The second part of the thrilling new series of Doctor Who begins on 27 August 2011.
“The rules have changed, and the game is deadlier than ever. Out in the universe, where the earthly rules of time and space do not apply, Amy and Rory know only too well that their baby daughter needs them. For Melody Pond is destined to become River Song, mysterious archaeologist and convicted murderer – the woman who killed the best man she ever knew…
“The Doctor leads Amy and Rory across centuries and galaxies in a desperate search for baby Melody, but a terrible and inescapable date looms large. At 5.02pm on 22nd April 2011, the Doctor will die. These are his last days, and the quest for Melody his final mission.
“The search will result in a crash landing in Thirties Berlin and will bring them face to face with the greatest war criminal of all time. And Hitler. Old friendships will be tested to their limits as the Doctor suffers the ultimate betrayal and learns a harsh lesson in the cruellest warfare of all.
“A distress call from a terrified little boy will break through all barriers of time and space and lead the Doctor to visit the scariest place in the Universe. George’s bedroom. George is terrorised by every fear you can possibly imagine. Fears that live in his bedroom cupboard. His parents are desperate – George needs a doctor. But allaying George’s fears won’t be easy. Because the monsters in George’s cupboard are real.
“An unscheduled visit to a quarantine facility for victims of an alien plague – a plague that will kill the Doctor in a day – leaves Amy trapped. Alone, Rory must find Amy and bring her back to the TARDIS before the faceless doctors kill her with kindness. But Rory is about to encounter a very different side to his wife.
“In an impossible hotel, the Doctor, Amy and Rory find themselves checked-in but unable to check out. Walls move, corridors twist, rooms vanish and death lies in wait for every visitor. But the Doctor’s time has yet to come. He has one last stop to make on his final journey. His old friend, Craig Owens, desperately needs his help – a new and unfamiliar presence is wreaking havoc in Colchester. And then come the Cybermen. But time catches up with us all and the Doctor can delay no more.
“By the shores of Lake Silencio, in Utah, all of time and space hang in the balance. And a NASA astronaut is waiting…”

The new Adventure Game will be released October, 2011 and is called The Gunpowder Plot.
It’s the most ambitious Adventure Game to date and stars Matt Smith as the Doctor, Karen Gillan as Amy and for the first time, Arthur Darvill as Rory Williams. This new, dazzlingly epic story gives you the chance to battle aliens in London, 1605. But as well as extra-terrestrial monsters, you’ll meet Guy Fawkes (visualisation above) and really get a feel for what was happening at this incendiary moment in Britain’s history. It’s your chance to virtually step back in time, chat to famous figures and participate in one of the most notorious plots the world has ever known.
We’re delighted to say that The Gunpowder Plot also sees the return of two old enemies… more about them soon! Right now we can confirm that this, the fifth Adventure Game, was written by Phil Ford (Doctor Who: The Adventure Games, The Sarah Jane Adventures and co-writer of The Waters of Mars) and produced by Gary Russell. The executive producers are Steven Moffat, Piers Wenger, Beth Willis, Anwen Aspden and Charles Cecil.
The Gunpowder Plot will be the most advanced of the Adventure Games so far. Gamers will be able to play as the Doctor, Amy and Rory, exploring the immersive environments of this historic period. The adventure will feature multi-linear gameplay, even more sophisticated puzzles, and a complex lighting system specifically designed to recreate the atmosphere of 17th Century London. And for the very first time, the introduction of portal technology will enable gamers to experience for themselves that the TARDIS really is bigger on the inside…
To accompany the game, BBC Learning will be offering teachers an online resource pack containing unique, downloadable assets to support History and Literacy in the classroom. And in the adventure itself you’ll be meeting not just the main figures from the plot, but everyday Londoners who lived through an exciting, dangerous and fascinating era.
The Adventure Games have received over 2.6 million download requests since the launch of the first adventure, City of the Daleks, which SFX called ‘the best Who game to date.’ The series was a finalist at the Develop Awards and nominated at the Banff World Media Festival for Best Branded Entertainment.
As always, the Adventure Game will be free in the UK and we’ll be giving you more information soon. The Gunpowder Plot explodes in approximately three months time. It may not rhyme, but remember, remember… October!
