Listeners’ Classic Favorite TV series?

As many of you know, we had a recent poll on the website to determine what everybody’s favorite classic TV series in sci-fi. Some of the results that we received were very interesting. There were several shows that I was sure would be somewhat popular and others I was sure would not be as popular as they are today. Although, this did not prove to be true when the voting took place, which I suppose is the purpose for doing the voting in the first place. If I already have the answers, then why would I ask in a poll?

Now I’m not surprised that Doctor Who is among one of the favorite shows of everybody. But what is surprising is that it is one of the favorite classic shows. Now, what I mean by this is that, not only is it the favorite of a lot of people in today’s world, but that it’s the favorite of a lot of people that used to watch it, and they view it fondly looking back. Now this doesn’t surprise me that those people who were watching Doctor Who view it and look at it fondly. What does surprise me however, is that enough watched the original show for it to take the first-place slot on what is your favorite classic sci-fi TV series.

Next on this list is the original Star Trek series, which, quite to the contrary, bears absolutely no surprise other than it simply being in second place. I personally remember watching quite a bit of Star Trek, followed by The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and of course, who could forget Voyager. The original Star Trek series did not run for very long, however it is remembered quite fondly by a lot of us, and still seems to be able to hold its own watching it today. It’s no wonder that this TV show is remembered and thought of as one of our favorite sci-fi classic TV series of all time.

Buck Rogers in the 25th Century follows behind in third place. Even as I write this Twiki’s voice comes to mind in my head as I can hear him say “Beep-tee beep-tee beep-tee beep-tee, right on, Buck.” Now third place is not held all by itself, this position is shared by the original Battlestar Galactica series. The original Battlestar Galactica series doesn’t surprise me to be on this list either, with the shiny tin cans known the Cylons always right on their tail. They battled their way across the galaxy in search of a better home and a better way of life for the few surviving humans.

Coming in fourth place was a show I remember fondly. Unfortunately, I was a bit young to remember many of the details of the show. Salvage One was about a group of guys that built a rocket independently of or from the government. The show always seemed to intrigue me, I’m not sure what it was, but I always seem to like it. Maybe it’s just that it pertained to rockets, outer space, or even just going to the moon. Who knows? Either way, a little surprised it’s on the list but would’ve been on my personal list anyway.

Finishing up our list in slot number five we have The Twilight Zone. Man, who could forget The Twilight Zone each week having a different episode of a freaky story that made you think very deep about what was going on in your life. It also seems to always come to mind when I hear the phrase “be careful what you ask for as you just might get it.” Often times, this was the case in The Twilight Zone; somebody was looking for something, and even when they got it, it didn’t work out the way they expected.

That’s your top five favorite classic sci-fi TV series of all times. Honorable mention would go to several really good shows including The Outer Limits and The Planet of the Apes.
