Preview/Review: Lost Girl

Lost Girl premiers on SyFy on Monday, January 16th.  Its a Canadian series that airs on ShowCast, the second season of which is finishing up this month.

Lost girl follows a succubus by the name of Bo. She was abandoned by her parents as an infant and raised by humans. She did not know about her special abilities until she became a teenager and accidentally killed her boyfriend.

In Lost Girl all paranormal creatures are called Fey, then their subspecies would be Vampire, Werewolf, Succubus, and so on. There is a political struggle that has been going on for over a thousand years in the Fey community between the Light and Dark sides. Once they discover the existence of Bo, she is abducted and the Fey leaders demand that she choose a side/party. Bo passes their test, but chooses to pick from Dark or Light, deciding instead to choose Humans.

I rather enjoyed Lost Girl, it has a quirky sense of humor and was all around fun to watch. I’m going to give it a few more episodes and see if they can maintain the quality of the storyline, there seems to be an ongoing undercurrent about Bo being not entirely normal even in the Fey community. If you liked Buffy the Vampire Slayer you will probably enjoy Lost Girl, it has a very similar feel to it. On the flip side if you could not stand Buffy or is spinoff Angel its probably best if you steer clear or Lost Girl.
