STARGATE SG - 1 is perhaps one of the best Science Fiction shows on television today.  It has extremely high production values, well written scripts and a top notch cast.  For a spin-off of an exceptional movie it has done far better than anyone would have expected.  Lets face it TV shows based off movies usually don't do all that hot.  Sure they had to change a few things from the movie to actually make it work as a series, but all of that is explained away in the 90 minute pilot movie and once you get past the changes and actually get into the story I think it actually works better than the movie.
