With Angel taking on its second season the show is going extremely well.  It is truly unusual for a spin-off to actually do better in the ratings than its parent show (Buffy the Vampire Slayer).  I attribute Angel's high rating to its darker feel, although they do still know when to pull out the campy stuff, like the soul reading demon, who can only read you when you sing.  So naturally he runs a Karaoke Bar.
