11th Doctor Already Under Fire
Matt Smith was the Doctor on screen for a mere 30 seconds, yet already he has angered some against him. In his only scene in The End of Time Part 2, after the Doctor regenerates, he sees his hair and comments "Still not ginger.". This comment was made because as the Doctor has mentioned before, he wants to be ginger.
The comment enraged parents who said it upset their red-haired children and would incite school bullies to pick on them. As a parent I would be more upset at myself and my children not being able to understand the comment in its proper context. And Secondly as a fan of the show, the Doctor discourages bullying, so why would bullies all of a sudden start listening to him?
I think people should get a clue and move on with their lives.

Even if you cross your eyes, how does "still not ginger" incite bullies to pick on red-headed kids? Not being green doesn't get you bullied by Kermit haters. You called it - people need to get a clue and mind their own business.

People are always on the look out for some cause to rally behind. Now it's picking on the Ginger children of the world, and the Doctor is enemy #1 on that list. Guess they just don't care to watch the show and take things as they're meant. Besides, even at the moment he said it, it didn't sound malicious. He's just commenting that he wasn't like he was hoping it would happen.

No Snowdays for the Doctor...
Neither rain, nor hail, nor sleet, nor snow, nor heat of day, nor dark of night shall keep this Timelord from filming new adventures for us to enjoy. Filming on the new series of Doctor Who continues in Cardiff even though much of England is snowed in.
A show insider said: "A bit of snow might stop mere humans but not the Doctor."
"Filming is on a tight schedule and has to keep on going regardless of the weather. Doctor Who can work around anything."

It's Series 31 or 1, not 5
In the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine Steven Moffat new series Executive Producer and Lead Writer for Doctor Who said:
"It’s Series Thirty-One of Doctor Who, and it's Series One of Matt Smith's Doctor, Those are both real numbers. I submit that 'Series Five of Doctor Who' means absolutely nothing unless you really believe that Matt Smith is the third Doctor. Everyone knows he's the Eleventh Doctor so that means it’s definitely not 'Series Five'. Whichever number you choose, 'Series Five' is the one that's flawed."
"'Series One' is an exciting sentence. 'Series Thirty-One' is an awe-inspiring sentence. 'Series Five' is a boring sentence - and also a complete lie."

I for one completely agree with Moffat's way of thinking on this one, I have always thought that Russell T. Davies should have continued on with the original series numbering scheme. Since it is supposed to be a continuation of Doctor who from the "Classic Series". It would be really nice if they actually number the box set as Series 31, but I doubt it will be.

I think whatever they decide, they need to pick one and justify their reasoning other than "it's a new Doctor." Tennant's "series one" was released as "series two," but it was a direct continuation of the previous season. Similarly, this should be series five since it's in direct line based on what we've seen thus far. Labeling Matt Smith's run as "volume three, series one" may make sense, and the marketing supports it with the new logo and the throwbacks to the original runs, but the jury's out until it's released to the public. Right now it feels like it should be "series five."
I appreciate the old school want of numbering the series continuous with the original series, but that would only serve to alienate new viewers. Let's face it, that's a daunting number for series TV, and the sheer amount of it is a large part of what kept me from diving in before Eccelston came along. Had I not had the encouragement of a dedicated Who fan and access to the Big Finish audios, I probably would have continued to avoid the series just because there's too much of it for a newbie to attempt. Eccelston's run really is the best jumping on point for newer viewers as new fans are expected to know nothing of what went before. It helps a lot, but it's not necessary. And just like in comics, a new run with an old character gets a new first issue. I don't really see Matt Smith's run being an equally accessible jumping-on point for new fans simply because so much has been re-established.
