Gaiman broke the news in a special message sent to SFX Weekender as part of his acceptance speech for winning Best Comic at the SFX Awards.
"Over the years SFX, and its readers and their votes in the polls, have always been very kind to me. I thought I’d return the favour with what used to be called, in journalistic circles when I was a boy, a scoop.
As anyone who’s read my blog knows, I’m a big fan of a certain long-running British SF TV series. One that started watching -- from behind the sofa -- when I was three. And while I know it’s cruel to make you wait for things, in about 14 months from now, which is to say, NOT in the upcoming season but early in the one after that, it’s quite possible that I might have written an episode. And if I had, it would originally have been called “The House of Nothing”. But it definitely isn’t called that any more."
Neil Gaiman's works include The Sandman graphic novel series, Stardust, American Gods, Coraline, and The Graveyard Book. He has won a Hugo Award and the 2009 Newbery Medal. His involvement in Doctor Who has been rumoured for a while.
This Saturday the BBC wil start airing a new trailer for the 2010 season of Doctor Who. This trailer will also have a 3D verison that will be seen in Theaters.
Ok, here is the new Doctor Who trailer, this is the 2D version of the 3D one that was made for the theaters.
Wow that was really Spastastic! I am really looking forward to the new season, but this trailer does not instill me with much confidence. At least now we know that the good Doctor will be back on our screens on April 3rd, 2010.
If their intent is to get people to watch the show in the wake of Tennant, this trailer is a colossal failure. That they're releasing it to the theaters means that this is one more reason the non-initiated will laugh at the geeks and continue to roll their eyes. It's like the PTBs go out of their way to alienate the core audience.
There is a short clip of the Beatles in episode one of the Chase. The clip is of the Beatles playing Ticket to Ride on the BBC's Top of the Pops. It was featured as part of the scene where the TARDIS crew are watching various events from history on the Time-Space Visualiser.
The music is covered by a blanket agreement for use in the UK, but not anywhere else. It may have been possible for the clip to have been left in, because there was no mention of it in any of the BBC paperwork. However the distributors have recieved so many queries about the inclusion of the clip that it made it impossible to ignore its presence, so it has been removed from the edit.
The lesson to learn from this by us fans, is to keep our mouths shut about things like this and hope that they will slide under the radar.
